My Birth Day

The doctors gave my mom a "due date", but I'm still not sure what all that's about...who knows when I'm supposed to enter the world (except me and God). So December 7th came and went, a day that will live in infamy I hear, but I decided to continue to hang out in my mom's nice warm tummy...even though her friends kept calling to see if I had made my debut.

Saturday night (about 9:30) while my mom was watching her favorite movie, Gladiator, with MiMaw (her mom), She felt her surges (what hypnobirthing people call contractions) becoming more and more regular. When she told my dad, I think it sort of sent him into "game time" mode.

We stayed at home and dad helped mom breathe through the surges until about 2:45am...then we were off to The Birth Center. We got there about 3am and mom was 7 cm. Unfortunately noone had taken a nap that day (except me) and dad and MiMaw were sleepy, but I think the exitement about seeing me helped them fight off the Sand Man.

About 9am it was time for mommy to push, so up on the birthing stool she would go and at 9:25 Sunday morning out I would come. I was a lot bigger than my mom or dad anticipated...8lbs 11oz and 21 inches long. The nurses kept talking about how big my hands and feet were...guess I won't be in those NB clothes very long.

The nurses and midwife thought my dad had been a doula in a former life because he did such an amazing job coaching my mom through labor...they said it should have been taped as a testimonial for hypnobirthing (thanks Loretta for helping my mommy and daddy bring me into the world in such a peaceful and calm way!).

I got to hang out with mom after I was born for a long time before I had to get a bath, and I had no problems with that whole latch thing...I'd been sucking on my hands for quite some time. We hung out at the Birth Center all day, my g'ma got me dressed and we went home about 7 last night.

Here are some pictures from my b-day...stay tuned for more life according to me... Benjamin Brock Sumpter (you can call me Brock).

Hello Benjamin. I knew your Mom through a prenatal Yoga class and I had to tell you how strong your Mom was. She was still in class when she would be due couple of days away. You must've had a good time enjoying the Yoga stretch and doing a little exercise in your Mommy's tummy.
Danica, great job!!! Did you give a natural delivery?

Best wishes, Sherry Ouyang
